Appearances From Pavlik, Penguins' Kennedy Highlight Upcoming Phantoms Games

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Two area pro sports champions will pay visits to the Youngstown Phantoms and their fans this month.

Current middleweight title holder and Youngstown native Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik (Saturday, Jan. 16) and Stanley Cup champion Tyler Kennedy of the National Hockey League's Pittsburgh Penguins (Friday, Jan. 29) will make appearances at Covelli Centre in conjunction with upcoming Phantoms' home games.

Pavlik will take part in the ceremonial puck drop prior to the Phantoms' matchup with the U.S. National Team at 7:15 p.m. this Saturday. Kelly Pavlik's 13th Round Bar & Grille is sponsoring the night, which features a Thunderstick giveaway for the first 1,000 fans, brought to you by Johnny K's Powersports.

Following the Phantoms' showdown with Team USA, winners of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge earlier this month, join players and team staff for a special postgame party at Pavlik's 13th Round Bar & Grille, located just minutes away from Covelli Centre at 162 South Bridge Street in Struthers.

Less than a week later, local hockey fans will get a treat when Kennedy, a valuable contributor to Pittsburgh's run to the Stanley Cup championship last spring, stops by for an exclusive autograph session before the Phantoms take on the Sioux Falls Stampede Jan. 29 at 7:15 p.m.

Covelli Centre gates will open at 5 p.m., one hour earlier than usual, for the meet-and-greet with Kennedy, which will last until 7. Anyone who wishes to participate must purchase a ticket to the evening's game, which is part of USA Hockey's Hockey Across America Weekend, the third-annual nationwide celebration of the sport.

Kennedy, currently in his third year with the Penguins, scored 15 goals during the NHL's 2008-09 regular season and added five more in the playoffs, including the game winner at Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena in do-or-die Game Six of the Stanley Cup Final against the Detroit Red Wings.
