Majors End 2009 With A Loss

December 31, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Brampton, ON- After winning in over time last night, the Majors couldn't make it back-to-back wins, losing this afternoon to the Brampton Battalion 4-1 at the Powerade Centre. The loss drops the Majors to 25-8-3-1 on the season.

The Majors found themselves down early when Matt MacLeod put the Troops ahead a little over five minutes into the game. MacLeod hit the puck in mid air and the goal was reviewed for sometime before it was determined a good goal. Sean Jones then scored his first of two goals in the game to put Brampton ahead 2-0 into the first intermission.

Mississauga came out stronger in the second period and scored at the 2:50 mark on the power play to cut the lead to one. William Wallen scored his twelfth goal of the season after a great series of passes from Corey Bureau and Rob Flick. However, not even a minute later Brampton restored the two goal lead when Sean Jones scored his second of the game off a bad bounce. Philip Lane fired a long shot on Majors goaltender Chris Carrozzi; Carrozzi made the save and the puck deflected into the air. Carrozzi lost sight of the puck and Jones tapped it in, making it 3-1. The Majors continued their relentless pressure but couldn't put one past Battalion netminder Patrick Killeen.

Ian Watters ended any hope of a Majors comeback with his sixth goal of the season with under ten minutes to play in regulation making it 4-1 for Brampton, and that's how it would end. Philip Lane picked up three assists for the Battlion. Killeen made 31 saves and was a key factor in the Battalion win. Chris Carrozzi made 16 saves for the Majors in a losing effort.

Mississauga will now have a couple days off, before entertaining the Ottawa 67's on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The loss marks the first time Brampton has defeated the Majors this season.

Holiday Packs are available until Monday January 4. For more information or to purchase one, contact the Majors office at (905) 502-7788 x.252.
