
Barnstormers Make Holidays Bright For Those In Need

LANCASTER, Pa-The Barnstormers will be paying it forward this holiday season. Committed to giving back to the community, the Barnstormers will be spreading holiday cheer and goodwill to neighbors throughout a "Week of Giving". The Week of Giving will benefit local students, families and non-profit organizations, including Wharton Elementary School and the Water Street Rescue Mission.
Each day during the Week of Giving members of the Barnstormers front office will host or participate in a different activity. The Barnstormers kick off their Week of Giving at the Coats for Kids Telethon on Friday, December 11 and will continue with different activities listed below.
December 12-20
The Barnstormers will collect new, unwrapped toys for the US Marine Corps' Toys for Tots Program. Anyone who donates a new, unwrapped toy will receive a FREE skate rental for the Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
December 12-16
The Barnstormers will also collect school supplies for Wharton Elementary School in the School District of Lancaster. They are specifically in need of crayons, pencils, glue and composition books. Anyone who donates school supplies will receive a FREE skate rental for the Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
December 13
Help the Barnstormers kick off the holidays and fight arthritis! Members of the front office are teaming up for the Arthritis Foundation's Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis. Support Barnstormers' pitcher Eric Ackerman and Cylo's Little Helpers as they raise money and awareness for the Arthritis Foundation!
December 14
Eighty thousand vouchers for FREE admission to the Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium, courtesy of Wohlsen Construction, will be distributed to teachers in Lancaster County so they can reward their students for perfect attendance, good grades or other areas of improvement.
Barnstormers Manager Tom Herr and members of the front office will serve breakfast at Water Street Rescue Mission that morning as well.
December 15
Barnstormers Manager Tom Herr will present checks to the Lancaster General Healthcare Foundation and SALSA Baseball totaling nearly $10,000 from specialty game-worn jersey auctions throughout the 2009 season.
December 16
The team will play Santa for a family of four in Lancaster City that has been adopted through the United Way of Lancaster's Holiday Clearinghouse program. Cylo's little helpers will go shopping and wrap presents for the family.
December 17
The Barnstormers will drop off school supplies to Wharton Elementary School from donations made at the Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The Barnstormers will also visit the family they adopted through the United Way of Lancaster's Holiday Clearinghouse program. An extra special delivery of gifts from Cylo will make this family's holiday a memorable one.
December 18
Cylo and the Barnstormers front office staff will visit George Ross Elementary School to share his favorite story, "Cylo at the Bat", with students.
