Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa, ON - The Oshawa Generals Hockey Club has partnered up with the Oshawa Public Libraries to present the Read, Dream, and Achieve Program.

The first of its kind, the program Read, Dream and Achieve was designed to encourage youths and their families to realize their dreams by reading, and also to show them their role models sharing the same passion of reading a great book!

Team members of the Oshawa Generals, along with local personalities were invited to take part in the Read, Dream and Achieve program to create an "all star reading team."

Each member will pair up and read their stories at a branch of the Oshawa Public Libraries from November 2009 through February 2010. In addition to these public programs, each participant will also take part in video recording their stories so that they can be shared through the Library website either via YouTube or podcasting, so that customers can take part in quality programming at any time, day or night. These programs will also be accessible by following links through the Oshawa Generals website.

At each public program, Oshawa General game vouchers will be given out, in addition to ballots that can be filled out to win prizes on that day, and kept for grand prize draws at the end of the program series. Customers who join us for the programs will also be given photo cards representing our program series that they may use for autographs on that day, and keep them to collect more autographs at the wrap up party. The printing materials and services were generously donated by Staples Business Depot, store # 203, GM Don Oliver. Refreshments are also provided at each public program.

A the end of each video recording, viewers will be given a secret code that will encourage them to come out to any branch of their Oshawa Public Libraries to receive an Oshawa Generals game voucher and allow them to enter the draw for the end of the program series (autographed jerseys, books, etc.)

The conclusion of the program series will be celebrated with a wrap up party, in which all programming participants will be invited to attend. This last party will include Wii challenges, games, perhaps readings and/or crafts and pizza, chips and other refreshments. The grand prize draws will take place at this party.

In addition to the wrap up party at one of the Library branches, the "all star reading team" will be included in a ceremony at an Oshawa Generals game, to recognize the commitment and efforts of the reading team.

Statistics will be kept to track of the successes of this program series in order to help create a model to grow future programs of its kind.
