Spokane Chiefs News Release
Thanks to the incredible shrinking number of James Reid's goals against average, the Spokane Chiefs have become the stingiest team in the Western Hockey League allowing just 2.31 goals per game, more than a half goal better than any other team in the Western Conference and.10 better than the Saskatoon Blades, the league's top team with 43 points in 28 games.
The Chiefs will put their numbers to the test this weekend when they host Seattle on Friday and travel to Portland on Sunday. Friday night the Chiefs will present Coeur d'Alene Casino Night.
Reid, who was the first goaltender to be named the WHL Player of the Month since February, 2006, has taken his goals against average from 3.25 to 2.03 thanks to an 11 game stretch where he allowed just 12 goals. The 19-year-old first year starter posted three shutouts and now leads the WHL in goals against and save percentage at.929.
In the first 13 games of the season the Chiefs allowed the first goal of the game 10 times. In the next 13, they have cut that number down to five. The Chiefs are 11-1 when they score the first goal of the game.
After outscoring the opposition 3.30-3.07 in the first 13 games, the Chiefs have outscored them 3.15-1.53 in the next 13.
