Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Three goals in the opening period provided the start the Waterloo Black Hawks needed for a 6-3 Thanksgiving win against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at Young Arena.

Waterloo scored at even-strength, on the power play, and shorthanded in the opening 20 minutes. Dan Sova struck first at 8:54 with a long shot that changed directions. Bryce Aneloski answered with a four-on-four goal at 13:25, but just over two minutes later, Brock Montpetit stepped around a check and slid a shot into the net for a power play goal in transition. In the final minute of the frame, a key faceoff win during a five-on-three penalty kill and a heads-up play by Sova found Montpetit coming out of the box at the end of the first Black Hawks penalty. In spite of being interfered with during his breakaway, Montpetit still scored with 33 seconds remaining.

In the second, Zach Lehrke drew Cedar Rapids closer on the power play at 7:06, but Patrick Divjak and Tyler Barnes both found the net for Waterloo in a 33 second span during the final four minutes. Peter Sakaris and Divjak scored in the third for the RoughRiders and Black Hawks respectively in the third. C.J. Motte made 24 saves in the win.

The Black Hawks play once more this week, at home on Saturday against the Indiana Ice. The 7:05 game is on Kids Night, sponsored by Cadillac Lanes and Waverly Bowl Inn. Everyone at the arena gets a free game of bowling, plus kids twelve and under will receive a free ticket for each regularly priced adult admission. Additional children's tickets are just $5.
