FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Freedom are pleased to welcome James Frisbie as the team's new pitching coach in 2010.
Frisbie joins the Freedom after spending the past two seasons with the Fort Worth Cats of the American Association as their pitching coach, guiding the Cats to a team 4.05 ERA in 2009, second best in the league.
"We're very happy to have James join our staff as the pitching coach," Freedom General Manager Kari Rumfield said. "He's experienced success in our league before as a pitching coach helping Chillicothe reach the playoffs 2005 and we look forward to him doing that again here with the Freedom next summer."
In Frisbie's first year with the Cats, he guided the pitching staff to a league best ERA of 3.49.
He has also served as the manager of the Bradenton Juice in the South Coast League in 2007. In 2006, he was the pitching coach for the Coastal Bend Aviators in the American Association after coaching in 2005 with the Chillicothe Paints.
"James is going to bring a lot knowledge to our staff," Field Manager Toby Rumfield said. "He's already talking about guys out there he wants to bring in that are going to help us win next season."
The Freedom will return top pitcher Everett Saul to lead the staff next season. Saul set a Freedom single season record for wins in 2009, going 12-7. Right-handers Andy Clark, Preston Vancil, Ben Shivers, Jordan Towns, Jonathan Miller and John Tesseyman will also be in the hunt to learn from Frisbie's council.
Florence finished eighth in the league in pitching last season, posting an ERA of 5.01.
