Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will host a Hot Stove Dinner and Silent Auction on Friday, January 15th at 5:30 PM at the Wyndham Hotel in South Portland. Red Sox infielder and former Portland Sea Dog Jed Lowrie will be the featured guest at the dinner. Additional guests will be announced. All proceeds from the dinner and silent auction will benefit the Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program.Tickets for the event are now on sale. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Hadlock Field Ticket Office, by phone at 207-879-9500 or online at www.seadogs.com. Only 300 tickets are available for this event, tickets cost $50 each. Everyone who attends will receive a signed 8 X 10 photo of Jed Lowrie.
The 25 year-old, Lowrie, was an Eastern League All-Star with the Sea Dogs in 2007 hitting.297 (100-for-337) in 93 games with eight home runs and 49 RBI before being promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket on July 27th. Lowrie reached base safely in 38 consecutive games for the Sea Dogs from April 29th through June 9th, the third longest streak in franchise history. Lowrie was named the Red Sox Minor League Offensive Player of the Year in 2007. The Salem, Oregon native was selected by the Red Sox fourth pick (45th overall) in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.
Lowrie got his first taste of Major League Baseball in 2008 splitting the season between the Red Sox and Triple-A Pawtucket. He appeared in 81 games for the Red Sox batting.258 (67-for-260) with two home runs and 46 RBI. He ranked third on the club in sacrifice flies (8), and fifth in doubles (25). Lowrie appeared in nine of Boston's 11 post-season games in 2008, including eight starts batting.207 (6-for-29) with two RBI. He hit safely in all three of his ALDS appearances including a walk-off single in the 9th inning to give Boston a 3-2 win and clinch the series, 3-1. He was just the fourth rookie ever to end a post-season series with a walk-off hit.
Lowrie's 2009 season was plagued with injuries and was limited to just 32 games with the Red Sox, where he hit.147 (10-for-68) with two home runs and 11 RBI. Working his way back to the Red Sox after a left wrist injury, Lowrie made one rehab appearance for the Sea Dogs on July 6th in Manchester, New Hampshire, Lowrie was 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI.
Lowrie will be joined by other guests at the dinner including the 2010 Portland Sea Dogs' Manager and Red Sox minor league prospects. Personalities will be announced at a later date.
All proceeds from the dinner and silent auction will benefit the official charity of the Portland Sea Dogs'; the Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program. The Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program was established in 1995 to raise money for the Maine Children's Cancer Program. For every strikeout that a Sea Dogs' pitcher throws money is raised through generous pledges of businesses and individuals. The Sea Dogs 2010 season opens on April 8th in Reading, Pennsylvania with the home opener set for Thursday, April 15th at 6:00 PM against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees). The 2010 season is the Sea Dogs' 17th season in Portland and eighth as an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
