Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

(Bowling Green, KY) - On the heels of the successful launch of Fueled by Art, the Hot Rods, Class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, are teaming up again with attorney Flora Templeton Stuart for another exciting school-based community program. Axle's Book Buddies will show kids that reading is both fun and instrumental to their growth in and out of the classroom.

"This is another important program to introduce to our schools and libraries," said Brad Taylor, Hot Rods CEO and General Manager. "With video games and computers, children are spending less and less time reading. With the partnership of Flora Templeton Stuart, we want kids to be excited about picking up a book today so they may enhance and brighten their future."

Through Axle's Book Buddies, teachers will challenge their students to read a certain number of books throughout the school year, using Hot Rods baseball as an incentive. Once a student reaches their goal, the Hot Rods will invite that student to one of the team's reading program games scheduled for April, 2010.

Similar to their Fueled by Art program, the Hot Rods will begin the program by making special trips to local schools with mascot and community ambassador, Axle the Bear. These appearances will give students a special introduction to the program while providing further incentive to reach their goals.

"As founder of the Art Education Task Force, I am honored to sponsor Axle's Book Buddies program," said Attorney Stuart. "It is vitally important to create artistic and educational opportunities to motivate and inspire youth in our community."

Axle's Book Buddies appearances will take place Monday through Friday beginning January 4 and ending February 26. Teachers and administrators that would like their students to participate in Axle's Book Buddies should contact Hot Rods Director of Community Affairs Kyle Hanrahan at (270) 901-2121 ext. 212 to schedule an appearance at their school. A full review of Axle's Book Buddies can be found on the Hot Rods' website, BGHotRods.com.
