
Lancers Make It 10 In A Row With 3-2 Win Over Sioux City

Matt White tallied a goal and an assist as the Omaha Lancers extended their winning streak to 10 consecutive games dropping the Sioux City Musketeers 3-2 Friday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. With the win, the Lancers improved to 13-1 on the season and remain atop both the West Division and USHL standings with 26 standings points.
Sioux City opened the scoring midway through the first period when Ryan Carpenter ripped in his 2nd goal of the season. Tommy Olczyk and Andrew Sinelli grabbed the two assists on the even strength marker notched 8:50 into the opening frame. Omaha responded though less than eight minutes later when Nick Oddo broke in shorthanded and blistered in his 3rd goal of the season. Oddo's unassisted tally registered 16:24 into the period was Omaha's 3rd shorthanded goal of the season.
The Lancers grabbed their first lead of the night late in the second period when Seth Ambroz jabbed home a rebound at the side of the Sioux City net for his 7th goal of the season. White and Erik Haula grabbed assists on the even strength marker tallied 18:52 into the period. With the assist, White extended his point streak to 10 consecutive games having registered at least one assist in each of those games as well.
Omaha struck back early in the third period claiming a 3-1 lead just 54 seconds into the final frame when White wristed home his 8th goal of the season. Haula and Joe Lavin garnered the two assists on Omaha's 20th power play goal of the season. The Lancers have now registered at least one power play goal in each of their last 12 games overall. Sioux City made one final charge late in the third and trimmed Omaha's lead to a single goal with just 22 seconds remaining when Darik Angeli jammed in his 2nd goal of the season. It proved to be too little too late however as goaltender Joe Phillippi and the Lancers were able to hang on for their 10th consecutive victory.
Phillippi improved to 4-0 on the year grabbing the win in goal after 18 saves on 20 shots while Sioux City's Matt Skoff dropped to 2-5-1 on the season despite 26 saves on 29 Omaha shots.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow evening when they head to Sioux Falls to take on the Stampede.
