Waterloo, Iowa-Waterloo Black Hawk forward Nick Sorkin will play for the United States during the 2009 World Junior A Challenge next month on Prince Edward Island, USA Hockey announced Monday.

Sorkin, a Maryland native, has two goals and two assists in his first four games with the Black Hawks and is tied for the team lead in scoring. He had a two-point night, including an assist on the game-winning goal, when the 2009-2010 Hawks debuted on October 3rd in Green Bay. Last spring, Sorkin was ranked 128th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting prior to the June draft. After his time with the Hawks, the 18-year-old is committed to the University of New Hampshire.

The U.S. Junior Select Team will compete from November 1st through 8th at the World Junior A Challenge, meeting teams from Belarus, Russia, Sweden, and a pair of Canadian entries. Of the 22 players on the roster, 21 are currently members of USHL clubs. This marks the third season that the United States has entered a team into the event.

Last season, Joe Howe, Lee Moffie, Craig Smith, and Nick Larson represented the Black Hawks on the U.S. Junior Select Team. Smith was the U.S. captain, and trainer Todd Klein also served on staff for the squad. The United States won the gold medal at the 2008 event.
