RICHMOND, VA - Richmond Professional Baseball has announced the addition of a "wild card" vote which will produce a sixth candidate in the contest to name the Eastern League franchise beginning play at The Diamond in 2010. The fi ve original fi nalists (Flatheads, Flying Squirrels, Hambones, Rhinos, and Rock Hoppers) were chosen from a pool of more than 6,000 entries from fans during an on-line entry period which ran from September 23rd - 30th.

Per request of CNBC's sports business reporter Darren Rovell, the club has partnered with cnbc.com and will accept entries for a sixth name from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, October 7th, via email at sportsbiz@cnbc.com with the wild card winner being selected Thursday, October 8th. Explanations of the original fi nal fi ve fi nalists as well as a fan poll will be available online at sportsbiz.cnbc.com beginning at 9:00 AM as well.

"The plan was to go with the original fi ve," said Richmond Professional Baseball Chief Executive Manager Chuck Domino. "After being contacted unexpectedly by cnbc.com, we decided that the opportunity which was presented for national expo- sure for the team and the city of Richmond in exchange for adding one more name to the mix was too great to pass up."

The vote will expand to include the wild card candidate on Friday, October 9th, and continue through Sunday, October 11th. The name of the team will be announced at a special press conference on Thursday, October 15th at 2:30 PM. The press conference will be held at the Richmond Times Dispatch building.
