Adirondack Phantoms News Release
GLENS FALLS, NY - The Adirondack Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that Philadelphia has assigned goaltender Johan Backlund to Glens Falls. The Phantoms also announced that four players have been released from their 2009 Training Camp Roster.
Backlund, 28, appeared in one contest with the Flyers this preseason, stopping 14-of-16 shots in 29:27 of play in their game vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario on September 17. A native of Skelleftea, Sweden, Backlund signed a one-year contract with the Flyers on March 26, 2009, after he appeared in 49 games with Timra of the Swedish Elite League last season, where he posted a 2.56 goals-against average, .907 save percentage and four shutouts. He has spent the last three seasons with Timra (2006-07 through 2008-09), registering a 2.32 GAA, .909 save percentage and 16 shutouts in 145 games.
Adirondack also announced Friday that four players have been released from their 2009 Training Camp Roster: defensemen Devin Featherstone, Cliff Loya, Jeremy Swanson and Nathan Schwartzbauer. With those four transactions, and the addition of Backlund, the Phantoms now have 33 players remaining on their roster heading into their weekend home-and-home pre-season series with Albany.
