Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that they will broadcast every Vipers game this season, home and away, and every episode of Inside the Vipers Nest, on Jack 104.9 FM in the Upper Valley and 95.3 FM in the Lower Valley.

Fans can also watch every game for free online at rgvipers.com using NBA Futurecast.

Vipers' broadcasts were on ESPN Radio 1240 AM for the previous two seasons.

"We're moving to Jack FM because we want to be able to reach all of our fans across the Rio Grande Valley, and Jack provides us with two strong transmitters. All of our games and shows can now be heard from Sullivan City to South Padre Island, from northeast Mexico to Raymondville, and beyond", Vipers President/GM Brian Michael Cooper said.

Alex Del Barrio, who is also the Vipers' full-time Director of Basketball Operations, returns for his third season as the "Voice of the Vipers." Del Barrio will provide the play-by-play for all Vipers games while hosting Inside the Vipers Nest, which can be heard every Thursday from 6-to-7:00 p.m.

"I am thrilled to be returning behind the mic for my third season with the Vipers. There is nothing I enjoy more than brining Vipers basketball into the cars, homes, and computers around the Valley. Stay tuned for what we are expecting to be an exciting year on the airwaves," Del Barrio said.

It will be Del Barrio's fifth season as a basketball play-by-play announcer, after spending the previous two seasons calling games for the University of Texas Pan-American men's and women's basketball teams. Del Barrio spent four seasons as the voice of United League Baseball's Edinburg Roadrunners/Coyotes and has also been a part of broadcasts of the Central Hockey League's Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and the now-defunct Rio Grande Valley Dorados of af2.

Jonah Goldberg, who is also the Vipers' full-time Director of Communications, returns for his second full-season and third overall as a color commentator during home games. He will also be the studio host for road games.

"Adding a studio component for our road broadcasts is unprecedented in minor league sports. We will have a similar set-up to that of the Houston Rockets. Jonah will be able to contribute to more broadcasts this year with his move into the studio for road games. Needless to say Vipers fans will have a major league caliber broadcast this season," Del Barrio said.

Goldberg started contributing to Vipers broadcasts in February 2008. He has previous basketball broadcasting experience as the play-by-play announcer for UTPA men's and women's basketball during the 2007-08 season and Boston University women's basketball from 2005- through-2007. Goldberg has spent the last three off-seasons as the voice of the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, with whom he won the 2009 United League Baseball Broadcaster of the Year Award. Goldberg also offers color commentary during Killer Bees home broadcasts that do not conflict with Vipers games and he served as a sideline reporter for the Dorados for two seasons.
