MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Action 4 News announced today that they are launching their first Jr. Broadcaster Competition to give a local High School student the chance to appear on Action 4 News on October 6 and on the video board during the Houston Rockets-Boston Celtics game on October 7 at Dodge Arena.

Students have until September 23 to write an essay about why they want to be a sportscaster and submit it to their teachers. Three semifinalists will conduct an interview with a Rockets player and shoot a stand-up with the assistance of an Action 4 Sports personality (either Clay Williams or Darren Haynes) during the media availability portion of Rockets practice on October 4 at 3:00 p.m. at the McAllen Convention Center.

"The Vipers are all about making memories, and this is going to be great experience and a fun time for students Valley-wide. It'll be a great opportunity to show the community what our young people can do, " Vipers President/GM Brian Michael Cooper said.

It will be a part of RGV Rocket Launch, a festival surrounding Houston Rockets Training Camp in the Rio Grande Valley.

This will be the first of two Jr. Broadcaster Competitions held by the Vipers and Action 4 News. The second one will happen during the Vipers' season.
