Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, August 27, 2009) - Chivas USA defender Yamith Cuesta, acquired on loan on Aug. 14 from Colombian club Expreso Rojo, has received his P-1 work visa and International Transfer Certificate, and is now eligible for MLS action. The defender has joined the club in Los Angeles and will train with the team on Friday morning ahead of Saturday's Honda Super Clásico.
Chivas USA also announced today that it has waived defender Lawson Vaughn. The Marietta, Georgia native and University of Tulsa alum joined the Red-and-White in 2006 and made 48 appearances with club (40 starts), scoring one goal and adding three assists. Injuries had limited Vaughn to seven appearances in 2008, and the defender had not yet played in 2009.
"On behalf of everyone in the organization, we would like to thank Lawson for his years of dedicated service to Chivas USA," said Chivas USA Vice President of Soccer Operations Stephen Hamilton. "He's a true professional and we wish him the very best moving forward."
In another roster move, midfielder Sasha Victorine has been added to the Disabled List with a concussion. The midfielder last played in the Aug. 8 match at Colorado, and has been out for two weeks since suffering the injury in practice. Victorine will be eligible to come off the Disabled List for the Oct. 3 match at D.C. United.
Finally, defender Jim Curtin, added to the Disabled List on Aug. 14, has undergone successful arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle. The eight-year MLS veteran is likely to miss up to 12 weeks while recovering from the surgery, which was performed on Wednesday afternoon in Santa Monica by team doctor Michael Gerhardt and Dr. Robert Lee.
Chivas USA faces the LA Galaxy this Saturday night in the third and final Honda Super Clásico of 2009, kicking off at 8:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. The Red-and-White are the "away" team for Saturday's match, and the team's next home game is Sunday, Sept. 13, at 12:00 noon PT against the New England Revolution.
