MISSOULA, MT - The Arizona Diamondbacks in cooperation with the Missoula Osprey will host an open tryout at Ogren Park Allegiance Field on Monday, August 24th. Jim Dedrick from the Arizona Diamondbacks scouting department will be on hand to give area athletes a chance to make an impression on the Professional Baseball Club by running participants through a series of drills. The tryout is open to baseball players 16-21 years of age. Participants must have played some competitive baseball and be less than 2 years removed from it. Check in begins at 9:30am and the tryout starts at 10:00am.
"We are very excited that the Diamondbacks will be offering this opportunity to Missoula and Montana players for a second year in a row," said Osprey Executive Vice President Matt Ellis. "It is a great opportunity for the area players to be seen and get noticed. Although signing someone on the spot is unlikely, it gives the Diamondbacks the ability to follow some players down the road that normally wouldn't get seen at all. Last year's tryout showed that we have quality players in Montana that need an opportunity. We are very appreciative of the Diamondbacks for doing this and who knows maybe someone's dream will come true."
This will be the second year in a row that the Diamondbacks have hosted this tryout in Missoula. The Diamondbacks have been the only affiliate the Missoula Osprey have known as their affiliation moved with the franchise to Missoula in 1999.
The itinerary for the Tryout is as follows:
9:30 to 10:00am: Check in and Registration
10:00am: Players take the field for tryout
The tryout is open to men and women between the ages of 16-21 with competitive baseball experience. Participants must not be more than 2 years removed from competitive baseball. Players not meeting these requirements can be refused the opportunity to tryout. Players must bring proper baseball attire including clothing, shoes, bats, and glove. There is no cost to tryout.
