Lancaster Stormers News Release
LANCASTER, Pa. - The Barnstormers have released 1B Nate Gold, who has elected to retire after eight professional seasons. The 6-3, 220-pound slugger played 14 games for the Barnstormers after signing with the team on July 28. He batted .214 with no homers and seven RBIs.
Gold spent most of his career in the Texas Rangers' system after being drafted by the Rangers in the 10th round in 2002. The Utah native was a Double-A All-Star with Frisco in the Texas League in 2006, when he smashed a career-high 34 homers and collected 103 RBIs. Gold belted 146 homers during his career and hit at least 20 each season from 2004-08.
"Nate has some other opportunities outside of baseball," said Barnstormers vice president of baseball operations Keith Lupton. "We wish him the best of luck with his future. It was a pleasure to have him here with us."
The Barnstormers begin a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots at Clipper Magazine Stadium tonight at 7:05. Tickets are still available for each game at www.lancasterbarnstormers.com, by calling 717-509-HITS or by visiting the stadium box office during regular business hours.
