Frisco RoughRiders News Release
Frisco and San Antonio battled in another low-scoring game as the RoughRiders defeated the Missions 4-2 on Sunday. Frisco starter Blake Beavan (2-4) earned his second win of the season, allowing just one run. On offense, Manny Pina hit his first home run since July 2.
Frisco struck first with a run in the first frame when Adam Fox hit an RBI single to score Johnny Whittleman. The RoughRiders made it 2-0 in the second inning when Pina connected for his eighth home run of the season. The Missions came within one at 2-1, but Frisco answered with two runs in the sixth inning when Guilder Rodriguez scored on an RBI triple by Marcus Lemon who then scored on an RBI single by Mitch Moreland to push the 'Riders lead to 4-1. San Antonio rallied, but the Frisco bullpen held on for the 4-2 win.
Beavan allowed one run on nine hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one. For Beavan, it was his first win since July 9 and second at Dr Pepper Ballpark. San Antonio starter Corey Kluber (1-2) took the loss, allowing two runs over five frames. Frisco's Clayton Hamilton notched his first save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Fox had a team-best three hits as Craig Gentry and Marcus Lemon each tripled. Whittleman had a game-high four walks. The RoughRiders have now won back-to-back games for the first time in over a week, but stay two games behind Midland for first place in the South Division.
The RoughRiders will look to take the series finale over the Missions on Monday with first pitch at 7 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
