-SPIKES FINISH HOMESTAND vs. ABERDEEN: The State College Spikes finish a three-game series and a seven-game homestand with a matchup against the Aberdeen IronBirds tonight at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes are 3-3 on the homestand, and come in having lost back-to-back home games for just the second time this season. Aberdeen holds the all-time series lead, 9-2, and has won the last seven meetings against State College.
-LAST NIGHT: Aberdeen IronBirds starter Nick Haughian held the State College Spikes without a hit until the seventh inning, and the IronBirds beat the Spikes, 7-3, last night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Haughian allowed just three walks to State College in the first six innings of the game before Justin Byler led off the seventh inning with a single up the middle. The Spikes scored three runs in the eighth inning, but trailed by seven going into the inning. Brock Holt had an RBI double for the Spikes, while Nelson Pereira saw his scoreless innings streak end at 14.
-SPIKES SEND BLACK TO MOUND: Right-hander Victor Black gets the start for State College tonight. The Pirates' 2009 supplemental first-round draft pick is making his fourth start and eighth overall appearance on the year. Black went 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his last start, which came give nights ago against Auburn.
-IRONBIRDS TO START ALLEN: Right-hander Colin Allen will be on the bump tonight for Aberdeen. In his last start, Allen went 4 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, against Hudson Valley on August 1. Allen has recovered from a rough beginning to the year, posting an 8.53 ERA after his first six starts.
-PAINT THE PARK PINK TONIGHT: Not only can fans enjoy Kids Eat Free Thursday presented by FOX 8/ABC 23, but the Spikes will also wear special pink jerseys on Paint the Park Pink Night, presented by Mount Nittany Medical Center. The jerseys will then up for bids throughout the game in the final Jersey-off-the-Back Auction of the year to benefit the Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center benefiting Breast Cancer. --
