Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

MISSOULA, MT - The Helena Brewers did, for 8 ½ innings, everything they needed to do to salvage the third game of the first series of the second half. That one half-inning nearly allowed the Missoula Osprey to escape with a victory in front of 2,545 of their faithful at Ogren Park Allegiance Field on Wednesday.

However, the Brewers managed to score three runs in the top of the ninth and held on to hand the Osprey a 10-8 setback.

Missoula (2-1, 23-18) scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 7-1 deficit and take an 8-7 lead, which they held until the ninth inning. The wild seven-run inning featured a pair of wild pitches that allowed runs to score, including Bobby Stone with the tie-breaking run, and a two-run home run by utility man Adonys Canelo.

The Osprey sent 12 men to the plate in that sixth inning, and scored the seven runs on just three hits. Alan Santiago added a run-scoring double, Alex Herrnberger - making his first start with the Osprey behind the plate - and Ramon Castillo each brought in a run on a groundout to go along with Canelo's four-bagger with a man on base.

However, the Brewers' bullpen would keep the Osprey offense in check long enough. Helena scored three runs in the top of the ninth off of Osprey reliever Bradin Hagens (1-1), turning an 8-7 deficit into the 10-8 final.

Castillo had two hits and two RBIs on the night for the Osprey - his sacrifice fly put Missoula on the scoreboard after Helena scored four runs in the first inning off of Osprey starter Enrique Burgos, who allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings pitched.

The Osprey now head to Great Falls to take on the Voyagers, who are also 2-1 in the second half. In the first game of the series on Thursday, Mike Belfiore goes for the Osprey, while left-hander Garrett Johnson will start for the Voyagers.

The Osprey will return home for a seven-game homestand beginning Monday, August 10. Tickets for any remaining Osprey home game this season can be obtained by calling the Osprey at (406) 543-3300, stopping by the Osprey Team Store at 412 W. Alder, or ordering online at www.missoulaosprey.com.
