GREAT FALLS, MT - Up until the ninth inning, it was looking like the Missoula Osprey was going to get their first shutout of the 2009 season.

A dominant pitching performance by the Osprey did not gain them the goose egg, but the Osprey did hold the Great Falls Voyagers scoreless for 8 2/3 innings, and fanned 13 batters on the way to a 5-1 win on Friday at Centene Stadium.

Mike Belfiore (1-1), Kevin Eichhorn and Chase Anderson combined on the seven-hitter, with Belfiore picking up his first professional win in the process. Great Falls finally scored in the ninth on an infield hit. Belfiore struck out eight batters in five innings of work, while Eichhorn fanned four and Anderson one in their combined four innings.

Keon Broxton had a pair of doubles and drove in a run, while Bobby Stone had two hits and a RBI for the Osprey (3-1, 24-17), who move into first place by themselves in the Pioneer League's North Division. David Nick, Paul Goldschmidt, Raywily Gomez and Ender Inciarte added two hits each to the Missoula 14-hit attack.

The Osprey and Voyagers are scheduled to play game two of their series on Friday at Centene Stadium. Right-hander Miguel Pena will start for the Osprey, while left-hander Matt Wickswat gets the call for the Voyagers.

The Osprey will return home for a seven-game homestand beginning Monday, August 10. Tickets for any remaining Osprey home game this season can be obtained by calling the Osprey at (406) 543-3300, stopping by the Osprey Team Store at 412 W. Alder, or ordering online at www.missoulaosprey.com.
