Spokane Chiefs News Release

Chiefs defenseman Jared Cowen will attend Canada's National Junior Team development camp in Saskatoon, Sask. beginning Wednesday afternoon. Cowen, who makes his home in Saskatoon, will not participate in scrimmages due to his rehab from knee surgery late last year.

The 18-year-old Cowen is one of 45 players attending the camp and will be eligible to be selected by Team Canada for the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championships being held in Saskatoon and Regina.

Cowen was the ninth overall selection of the Ottawa Senators in this summer's NHL Entry Draft and has played 122 regular season games and another 31 post-season games since joining the team at the end of the 2006-07 season as a 15-year-old. The 6'5" blueliner was the first overall selection by Spokane in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft.

Cowen helped Team Canada win a gold medal at the 2008 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka under-18 tournament and has represented the province of Saskatchewan on two other occasions.

Canada's development camp will run through August 10th.
