Kingsport Axmen News Release
The Kentucky Horsemen locked up a spot in the 2009 ArenaCup playoffs and moved within a game of the division lead after taking down Tennessee Valley last week. Now, they'll look to continue their winning ways when Peoria comes to Rupp Arena Saturday night. Kickoff is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST and will be carried live on 96.1 Supertalk with Randy Wilson and Gary Ball.
Kentucky (9-5) has won four straight and six of their last seven, and is 6-1 at home this year. All but one of the Horsemen's home wins has been by at least a touchdown.
Peoria (5-9) has found their rhythm after struggling to start the season, winning three of four and cruising past Mahoning Valley 76-34 at home last Saturday. Quarterback Luke Drone threw for 212 yards and six touchdowns, and leads the team with 2,308 passing yards and 59 total touchdowns on the year.
The Pirates rank 12th in the league in scoring offense at 52.6 points per game, but rank 22nd in total defense, surrendering 302.6 yards per game.
Lorenzen leads the way for Kentucky with 2,411 yards and 56 touchdowns passing and ranks 2nd in the league with 20 rushing touchdowns on the season. Receiver Lonnell Dewalt is having a record year, already breaking the franchise record with 32 touchdown receptions. The Horsemen are 4th in the league in scoring offense at 60.9 points per game, and the defense has made strides after a rough start, surrendering 41 points or less in five of the last six contests.
These two met on May 2 in Peoria, with Kentucky putting up their highest point total of the year in a 93-72 win. Lorenzen and Rascati combined for 342 passing yards and 11 total touchdowns in the win, and the Horsemen scored two touchdowns in the final minute after Peoria narrowed the deficit to a touchdown late.
Kentucky will wrap up the regular season at Florida on July 25. The Horsemen and Firecats have split their previous two meetings this year, with both winning at home.
