Chivas USA Defender Shavar Thomas Added to Jamaican National Team's Gold Cup Squad

CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, July 7, 2009) - Chivas USA defender Shavar Thomas has been added to Jamaican National Team's Gold Cup squad by head coach Theodore Whitmore. Thomas will join the Reggae Boyz on Wednesday, after Jamaica's match tonight against Costa Rica in Columbus, Ohio.

Thomas has made a total of 12 appearances for the Jamaican National Team, and was part of the squad that won the Digicel Caribbean Championship 2008, held in Jamaica in December. Since joining Chivas USA prior to the 2007 season, Thomas has made 56 appearances (55 starts), and has played a total of 148 games in his seven-year MLS career.

Jamaica fell in its first match of the Gold Cup, losing 1-0 to Canada last Friday night at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. After tonight's match against Costa Rica, Jamaica faces El Salvador on Friday night in Miami in its final group stage match of the tournament.
