Kinston Indians News Release

The K-Tribe wrapped up its four game series with Wilmington with a 2-0 shutout and its first series victory since a rain shortened three-game set June 9th-10th at Myrtle Beach. It was also the first four game series Kinston has won this season, after splitting five, losing three of four twice and being swept once. The K-Tribe outscored the Blue Rocks 18-5, threw two shutouts and allowed just 21 hits in the four games.

I Got 99 Problems but a Pitch(er) ain't one-Kinston's four starters this weekend allowed just two earned runs and went 3-0. Russell Young and Eric Berger continued to dazzle, as Young tossed six shutout innings of one-hit baseball in game win and has allowed just six earned runs his last five starts. Berger threw six scoreless frames in game two, his sixth start this season not allowing a run. Paolo Espino rebounded well from a dismal June, throwing six innings in game three, allowing just three runs, two earned, but not figuring in the decision as Kinston lost its only game of the series. In the finale Ryan Morris had his best stuff of the season, dealing a season-high seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits, two walks and a season-high tying seven strikeouts. Manager Chris Tremie had to go to his bullpen just six times in the four games, with the pen tossing 10 innings and allowing just two runs.

We're Going Streakin'!-Five K-Tribe hitters are currently riding hitting streaks of five games or more. The Indians hottest bat over the past month has been Adam Davis, and Davis has a season long nine-game hitting streak (12-36, .333). Lonnie Chisenhall has a nine game hit streak as well, as he has already had separate 12, 11 and eight game streaks this season. The Carolina League hit leader has yet to go three straight games without a base knock this season. The other Kinston hit-streaks include a seven-game streak for Cord Phelps and five-game streaks for Ronald Rivas and Lucas Montero.

Unfamiliar Foes-Kinston will see a heavy dose of Frederick and Potomac over the next two weeks, as the K-Tribe plays its next thirteen games against the northern division opponents, seven with the Keys and six with the Nationals. Kinston hasn't faced either team since May, and its last match-up with Frederick was May 22-24. The Keys have had the upper hand in the series so far, winning five of the six games, even though neither team has been impressive against the other. Kinston is hitting .261 with a staff ERA of 5.47 vs. Frederick while the Keys are hitting just .256 with an ERA of 4.75 against the Indians.

North vs. South - The K-Tribe will see a lot of the Northern Division in this season half. Kinston plays 40 of their remaining 60 games against the Northern Division, Including 14 a piece against both Frederick and Potomac. Kinston also plays their last five series of the regular season against the Northern Division. The K-Tribe is 15-25 against the Northern Division this season, 17-22 against the Southern Division.
