Angels Option Rafael Rodriguez to Salt Lake, Hurst Reassigned to Cedar Rapids

SALT LAKE CITY (July 3, 2009) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has optioned right-handed pitcher Rafael Rodriguez to Triple-A Salt Lake. To make room for Rodriguez on the Bees roster, Salt Lake has reassigned right-handed pitcher Kyle Hurst to Single-A Cedar Rapids.

Rodriguez, 24, has appeared in 12 games for the Angels in 2009, registering a 6.97 ERA with nine strikeouts. In eight games out of the bullpen for the Bees this season, he owns a 0.68 ERA with two saves. The Dominican Republic native signed with the Angels as a free agent on July 20, 2001.

Hurst, 23, has appeared in one game for the Bees in 2009, pitching one inning of relief, striking out one and allowing one earned run. In one game for the Orem Owlz this season, he owns a 9.00 ERA in two innings pitched with three strikeouts. In 2008, his first professional season, Hurst went 3-2 with a 3.92 ERA overall in three games for the Owlz and 13 games for the Tempe Angels. The Gilbert, Ariz. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 36th round of the 2008 draft.
