Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - On the night Bud Norris was elected to the Pacific Coast League all-star team, he allowed more runs than he had in his previous four starts combined.
Norris was roughed up by Nashville (45-35) in a 6-3 Express (36-43) loss. He allowed 10 hits and five earned runs in the loss - both season highs for the right-hander from California.
Tommy Manzella got Round Rock the start it wanted, launching a solo home run onto the left field berm in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 lead. But it was the last time the Express would have the lead all night.
Nashville rolled in the fifth inning, with Adam Heether leading off the frame with a swinging bunt single to third base, followed by singles by Brendan Katin and Drew Anderson. The latter single scored Heether. One out later, with runners at second and third, Jason Bourgeois grounded out to second, scoring Katin and moving Anderson to third. Alcides Escobar walked, and then Hernan Iribarren yanked a single to right field to score Anderson. Pinch-hitter Martin Maldonado wrapped up the scoring with a single to center field that scored Escobar, making it 4-1, Nashville.
Heether made it a four-run game with a solo blast to left field in the sixth inning off of Norris.
It was a five-run game in the eighth inning before a sacrifice fly by Mark Saccomanno scored Reggie Abercrombie to make it 6-2, and a sacrifice fly by Lou Santangelo scored Yordany Ramirez to make it 6-3.
Lindsay Gulin put together one of his best starts of the year for Nashville, allowing just one run on five hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Manzella led Round Rock at the plate with two hits, including the home run - his third of the season.
The two teams meet again Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. with Round Rock's other PCL all-star selection - right-hander Yorman Bazardo - taking the mound against the Sounds and left-hander Chase Wright.
The game will air on Fox Sports Net Southwest, and will feature post-game fireworks.
