Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - The Vancouver Canadians fell four full games back of division leading Salem-Keizer with a 7-0 shutout loss on Wednesday afternoon in front of 5,132 fans. The Canada Day ‘nooner' was the second time in seven home dates that the Canadians have sold out Nat Bailey Stadium.

Vancouver RHP Ricardo Penalba struggled in his third outing of the season giving up three earned runs on just two hits. Penalba's troubles came via walks (4), balks (2) and hit batters (2) that all lead to Salem-Keizer jumping out to a 4-0 lead through four innings.

The Volcanoes tacked on a run on the home half of fifth inning when Canadians RHP Bo Schultz hit CF Francisco Pegauro who then stole second base and third base before scoring on a sacrifice fly to left field off the bat of 3B Drew Biery.

The Canadians got two solid innings of relief from RHP Pedro Vidal, but in his third inning of work struggled as he walked both 1B Evan McArthur and C Ryne Price before 2B Juan Martinez doubled off the center field wall extending Salem-Keizer's lead to 7-0.

Vancouver managed just four hits off of Salem-Keizer pitching as Volcanoes starter RHP Jorge Bucardo went six scoreless innings scattering three hits and striking out five. The lone bright spot for the Canadians offensively was 1B Anthony Aliotti who went 2-for-4 with a double in a losing cause.

With the loss, Vancouver falls to 5-7 on the season, the win gives Salem-Keizer a 9-3 record after 12 games.
