Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes have been on a hot streak over the last week, winning five of their last six games. But Saturday night did not start well for Rancho. Lake Elsinore jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 2nd inning, taking advantage of three Quakes' errors.
After Danny Payne led off the 2nd with a double, Quakes starter Jeremy Thorne struck out Beamer Weems. Andy Parrino hit a routine ground ball to second baseman PJ Phillips that he booted for his second error of the game putting runners on the corners with one out. Ali Solis then followed with a double play ball to short that Andrew Romine threw wildly of second allowing the first run of the game to score. After another strikeout, Brad Chalk blasted a three-run home run to right field, his first professional home run in three seasons, to swell the Storm lead to 4-0.
The Quakes would cut into that lead against All-Star pitcher Cory Luebke in the 4th. Jeremy Moore led off with a walk, was balked to second, went to third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball to make the score 4-1.
Rancho's defense failed them again in the top of the 5th after Logan Forsythe led off with a single; he stole second and went to third on a throwing error by Alberto Rosario. Felix Carrasco grounded out to score Forsythe to give the Storm a 5-1 lead. After Thorne walked Keoni Ruth, he was relieved by Ryan Braiser who then walked the next two batters to load the bases with one out. Andy Parrino then hit a ground ball to first where Efren Navarro threw wildly to second allowing two runs to score and putting runners on the corners. Ali Solis followed with a sacrifice fly to make the score 8-1. The five errors for the Quakes were a season high.
The Storm added two more runs in the 7th on a solo home run by Danny Payne and a run scoring single by Yefri Carvajal to give Lake Elsinore a 10-1 cushion.
The Quakes offense sputtered all night, amassing just five hits, led by Rian Kiniry going 2 for 4.
The Quakes will finish out the series and the first half against the Storm at the Epicenter Sunday. The Quakes will send right hander Tim Schoeninger to the mound against right hander Wynn Pelzer. Game time is scheduled for 2:05pm.
The Quakes are the California League Affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. For more information about purchasing tickets, please call the Quakes Ticket Office at (909) 481-5252 or order online at www.rcquakes.com.
