Rainiers open series with 11-2 rout of Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - Bryan LaHair hit his 12th home run and drove in five runs, Doug Fister picked up his third win and the Tacoma Rainiers racked up a season-high 20 hits on their way to an 11-2 victory over the Portland Beavers Monday night at PGE Park.
LaHair, who was one of five Tacoma batters with three hits on the night, started the scoring with an RBI double in the second and capped the Rainiers' four-run third with a three-run blast to right as Tacoma got out to a quick 6-0 lead.
Jeff Clement, Chris Shelton, Mike Carp and Mike Morse also added three hits each for the Rainiers (33-31), who have won nine straight against the Beavers dating to the end of the 2008 season.
Fister (3-0) struck out four and gave up two runs and seven hits with no walks allowed in his 5 2/3 innings of work for the Rainiers, who snapped a three-game skid.
Kyle Blanks was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored for Portland (32-33).
Already up 7-2, the Rainiers, tacked on insurance in the late innings. Carp singled and scored on a force out and Jerry Owens singled home Morse in the seventh. An inning later, Shelton had an RBI triple and scored on a single by LaHair, who came in on a double from Adam Moore.
Coming off his strongest start of the season, Portland's Matt Buschmann (3-7) gave up seven runs on a season-high 11 hits across five innings for the loss.
The Beavers and Rainiers meet in the second game of their series at PGE Park Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.
