Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

The Kansas City Royals have announced the transfer of RHP Chris Hayes from Northwest Arkansas to the Omaha Royals, their Triple-A affiliate in the Pacific Coast League. Known for his submarine delivery, Hayes will join the O-Royals immediately, just in time for their long roadtrip in conjunction with the College World Series.

Hayes, a 26 year-old from Chicago, IL, has been with the Naturals in each of their first two seasons. This year, he has pitched in 18 games and totaled 36.2 IP with a 3-0 record and stellar ERA of 0.98. He has recorded 3 saves on the season with 17 strikeouts and only 6 walks.

Last season was a great campaign for Hayes as well pitching in 40 games, going 5-2 with a Naturals' leading 12 saves and a 1.64 ERA. This is his 4th year with the Royals organization after playing independent baseball in 2005 and being spotted in a tryout camp that off-season. He played four years in college but pitched only in his senior season with the Wildcats.

Hayes departs as the all-time leader in appearances for the Naturals, with 58 career games pitched out of the Northwest Arkansas bullpen. His 15 saves place him tops in that category as well.

The Royals did not announce a corresponding roster move, leaving the Naturals roster with 23 active players plus one on a major league rehab assignment.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and play at state-of-the-art Arvest Ballpark, located in Springdale. The Naturals have a toll-free ticket hotline (1-877-444-2637) for fans to purchase Naturals tickets.
