Connecticut Sun Foundation Third Annual Bright Horizons Scholarship Deadline Extended

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (May 14, 2009) - The Connecticut Sun Foundation has announced that due to an overwhelming response, the deadline to submit applications for the Third Annual Bright Horizons Scholarship has been extended until Monday, June 15th.

The $10,000 scholarship, which will be distributed in $2,500 increments annually, will be awarded to one graduating Connecticut high school senior who will attend an accredited four-year college or university in the state of Connecticut.

Applicants for the scholarship must meet a variety of criteria, which includes but is not limited to, a demonstrated financial need and a minimum 1300 score on the SAT or 28 on the ACT. All applicants must provide information detailing their extracurricular activities and honors, two letters of recommendation that reference their academic and community status as well as a 500-word essay describing the greatest challenge in their community and how they hope to make a positive impact.

Scholarship applications can be downloaded from the Sun website at www.connecticutsun.com by clicking on "Connecticut Sun Foundation." All applications must now arrive at the Connecticut Sun office by June 15, 2009.

The first recipient of the Bright Horizons Scholarship was Rebecca Wilcox, a graduate of Terryville High School. Wilcox is currently a business major at the University of Connecticut. The recipient of the scholarship in 2008 was Audrey Sperry, a graduate of Windsor High School. Sperry is now a student at Connecticut College.

The Connecticut Sun Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of Connecticut's youth by supporting athletic and educational endeavors, providing educational scholarships to high school seniors and grants to be used for the refurbishment of basketball courts and equipment.
