GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced today that from now on, U. S. Steel Yard will be a smoke-free stadium. The policy will be enforced at all RailCats exhibition, regular season and postseason games.

"As our organization continues to make improvements for our fans at U. S. Steel Yard, we envision this policy change making their ballpark experience and environment even better," RailCats President/General Manager Roger Wexelberg said.

The new policy will eliminate second-hand smoke for fans and all workers throughout the stadium. Second-hand smoke is a known health hazard and irritant for nearby non-smokers. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has qualified second-hand smoke as a Group A carcinogen, a category which also includes hazardous substances such as asbestos and arsenic.

The RailCats open the 2009 season at home Monday, May 18 at 7 p.m. against the Joliet JackHammers. Season tickets, group outings, mini-plans and flex tickets are now on sale by calling the RailCats at 219.882.2255. Don't miss your chance to experience the RailCats Tradition of Excellence in 2009 at U. S. Steel Yard.
