WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Football Club signed import defensive lineman Aaron McConnell, and import receivers Tyrone Timmons and Chris Jackson to contracts today.
As per team policy, details of the agreements are not disclosed.
McConnell (6-3, 295, Pittsburgh State KS â07, DOB: July 8, 1980 in Moore, OK) was All-American and All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (All-MAIAA) in every one of his four seasons as a defensive lineman at Pittsburgh State.
Starting 46 of 50 career games in college, McConnell registered 332 tackles, 22 sacks, and 10 pass deflections. He also added seven forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
McConnell has spent the last three years with the Colorado Crush and the Nashville Kats of the AFL.
Timmons (6-4, 225, Mississippi Valley State '07, DOB: July 7, 1984 in Tampa, FL) ranks second all-time in receptions and receiving yards at Mississippi Valley State behind NFL legend Jerry Rice.
Last year, Timmons earned team Rookie of the Year honours for the AFL's Tampa Bay Storm when he caught 23 passes for 267 yards and 13 touchdowns in only four games.
Jackson (6-1, 200, Millsaps '07, DOB: July 5, 1984 in Seale, AL) went undrafted in the 2007 NFL Draft, but spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints.
In his senior year at Millsaps, Jackson led his team in receiving yards, catching 65 balls for 693 yards and nine scores. He also added 832 yards in kickoff and punt returns.
"We continue to come to agreements with outstanding young men that are interested in earning the right to wear a Blue Bomber jersey and represent the City of Winnipeg," said head coach Mike Kelly.
