Frederick, MD- Salem scored five times on just two hits in the eighth inning, taking advantage of five walks issued by the Frederick pitching staff as the Red Sox prevailed 7-4 on Saturday afternoon in front of 7,217 at Harry Grove Stadium. Tied at two after seven well-pitched innings, the Keys bullpen grew erratic in the eighth. With two outs and the bases full, Aaron Reza scampered home from third on a passed ball that skipped past catcher Wally Crancer to give Salem a 3-2 lead. A few pitches later, Zak Farkes drilled a three-run homer to break open the score, and the Sox would add another off Keys reliever Brett Bordes when Will Vazquez' double plated Jered Stanley.

Though the Keys responded with two in the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-4 on Kraig Binick's two-run dinger, Frederick was unable to get any closer than that. With the bases loaded and the potential go-ahead run at the plate, Jason Rice struck out Matt Angle to escape the jam. Frederick stranded 10 runners on base on the afternoon, batting 0-9 with runners in scoring position.

Salem starter Seth Garrison tossed five solid innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits. He surrendered a solo home run to Wally Crancer in the bottom of the second that made the score 1-0, Frederick, but only yielded one hit over his final three innings. Ryne Miller replaced Garrison to open the sixth inning. Miller (2-0) pitched two scoreless frames and earned the victory, his second of the season. Jason Blackey pitched a scoreless ninth for the second straight night to pick up his third save.

Chris Salberg (0-2) suffered the loss for Frederick, as the Keys squandered a solid outing from John Mariotti. Mariotti went four and two-thirds, giving up two runs on four hits in his first start of the season.

Mike Jones drilled a solo home run in the fourth inning for Salem to tie the score at one, and following a Crancer sac fly in the bottom of the inning that gave the Keys a 2-1 edge, Aaron Reza singled to bring home Kris Negron and tie it at two in the fifth. Jones went 3-3 with two singles, a homer, and a walk, while Reza finished 2-4.

Salem aims for a sweep of Frederick on Sunday afternoon, when Derrick Loop retakes the mound on short rest. Loop tossed four hitless innings on Thursday in the second game of the doubleheader against Potomac. Lefthander Brian Matusz, the 4th overall selection in the 2008 draft, starts for the Keys.
