Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - G John DeCaro made 34 saves for the Las Vegas Wranglers to shutout the Bakersfield Condors 4-0 in front of 5,592 fans at Rabobank Arena Friday night. The Wranglers even the series up at two games apiece.
Vegas took advantage of early power play opportunities to put the Condors in a 2-0 hole. They converted on both power plays of a two-man advantage, with F Kelly Czuy and RW J.D. Watt both putting home goals inside the first 6:27 of the game. Tempers flared at the end of the period, with two separate fights breaking out at the 20:00 mark. That included a tilt between RW Chad Painchaud and Vegas LW Shawn Limpright, who came off the bench, that resulted in both players being ejected.
Neither team lit the lamp in the second frame, but it wasn't for a lack of opportunities. Vegas pounded G Yutaka Fukufuji with 20 second period shots on goal, while surrendering only seven shots by the Condors. Bakersfield had three additional power plays in the period but could not get the puck past DeCaro.
The Wranglers extended the lead in the third period to give them some insurance. LW Mick Lawrence slipped a shot under Fukufuji at 3:54 to make it 3-0. Later in the period, LW Dan Riedel recorded his second of the playoffs to account for the final score. The Condors were shutout for the first time since Jan. 14, when DeCaro and the Wranglers blanked them by the same margin.
