Avon, OH - The countdown to the Lake Erie Crushers inaugural season home opener on June 2, 2009 is underway. With only 50 days left until the first pitch, construction on All Pro Freight Stadium is progressing at a rapid pace to be ready for the season.
Starting this week, Infinity, the General Contractor of the project, will begin to remove the plastic shell covering the new stadium. The cover was installed last November to protect workers from the winter elements so that progress could continue uninterrupted on the interior and exterior of the stadium structure. While the outside shell has remained visually the same, there has been considerable progress under the protective bubble over the past several months. Once removed, fans will see a nearly completed stadium as they drive by on I-90.
On the field, Sport Construction Group began installing the artificial turf. After weeks of field preparation to ensure proper drainage and a level playing field, the bright green turf was rolled out last week and now covers over 75% of the field. Work will continue this week on the warning track and the infield.
In the seating bowl, American Seating started installing dark green stadium seats this past week. A three to four week process; seat installation is expected to be complete by early May.
"The progress is amazing," said General Manager Ryan Gates. "Every time we are on site, we see major progress. With the green turf and seats going in, the structure is really starting to look like a ballpark. We look forward to a great house warming party on June 2nd!"
