The Modesto Nuts are ready for the first pitch of the 2009 season and will host their Opening Day Celebration Thursday, April 9 at John Thurman Field! Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., and gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Pre-game entertainment includes live music, face painting and a barbershop quartet, and the Commemorative Air Force Central California Valley Squadron will perform a fly-over at the conclusion of the performance of the National Anthem.

Fans don't want to miss this opportunity to check out the improvements made to John Thurman Field during the off-season, including a renovated east picnic area, and two new party decks on either side of the press box. The picnic area will be used throughout the season for group events and BBQ's, and the party decks are available for use by groups of up to 125. Entertain in style with the Modesto Nuts this season!

Opening day will also be every fans first opportunity to see the 2009 Modesto Nuts team in action! The Nuts opening day roster includes two of the Rockies top ten prospects, according to Baseball America. Catcher Wilin Rosario is rated the number four (4) prospect in the Rockies organization and made his first appearance in Major League Spring Training this year. Rosario spent the entire 2008 season in Casper where he led the team in home runs (12), RBI (49), hits (83) and extra-base hits (30). Outfielder Charles Blackmon will also join the Nuts for the start of the 2009 season, and was rated the Rockies 10th best prospect by Baseball America. Blackmon hit .338 for Tri-City in 2008, and was selected by the Rockies in the second round of the 2008 June draft.
