Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA-Diamondbacks pitcher Max Scherzer has been assigned to make a rehab start for the Rawhide and will take the ball for Visalia's first game in Lake Elsinore tomorrow night.

Scherzer, who is coming off shoulder soreness, is scheduled to be back with Arizona by April 14th.

Scherzer made a brief stop in Visalia back in 2007 on his meteoric rise to the Major Leagues. He made 3 dominant starts, allowing just 1 earned run in 17 innings. He struck out 30 batters and walked only 2.

In his Major League debut last year, Scherzer entered a game against the Houston Astros as a reliever; he proceeded to retire all 13 hitters he faced over 4 1/3 innings, striking out 7 of them. The appearance broke a 46-year-old Major League record for most consecutive batters retired to start a career.

Tomorrow night's game kicks off a week-long opening road trip for Visalia. The Rawhide will return for their home opener on April 16th .
