Trudi Lacey Added To Mystics Coaching Staff

Washington, D.C. - Washington Mystics Head Coach Julie Plank announced that Trudi Lacey has joined the team's coaching staff. Lacey replaces Vanessa Nygaard who has resigned for personal reasons. Nygaard will serve as a scout for the team for the upcoming season. Per company policy, the terms of Lacey's deals were not disclosed.
"I am excited to be able to add Trudi Lacey to the coaching staff. She brings an incredible amount of experience to our staff. Trudi has been to the WNBA Finals as an assistant coach in 2001, and has worked with some of the best WNBA players, "said Plank. "Her passion, energy, enthusiasm, and work ethic will be a huge asset to our organization. She will focus on the defensive end of the floor, as well as work to develop our perimeter players. She is an extremely positive person, a great communicator, values teamwork, and is very competitive. I know she will work well with our players, and complement the rest of the staff."
Lacey brings a wealth of experience to the Mystics. She is currently the head coach of Queen University of Charlotte in North Carolina and led her team to a 13-11 record for the 2008-09 season. Lacey has also spent time as the Head Coach and General Manager of the Charlotte Sting. She has had coaching stints at the University of Maryland, the University of South Florida, NAIA Francis Marion College, Manhattan College and James Madison University.
Lacey played for the legendary Kay Yow at North Carolina State University where she was an All-American basketball player. Her jersey was retired by the school in 2000, and she was named to the ACC All-Legend Team. Off the court, Lacey is President / CEO of Lacey & Co., LLC a comprehensive executive coaching firm that specializes in strategic initiatives, performance coaching, personal development and organizational leadership training. She is very active in the Charlotte community and serves on the Board of Directors for A Child's Place, the National Kidney Foundation, the Johnston YMCA and Mothering across Continents, which addresses the HIV/AIDS pandemic in South Africa.

The Washington Mystics will tip off the 2009 season on Saturday, June 6th; on the road against the Connecticut Sun. Washington will host the club's home opener on Sunday, June 7th, against the Atlanta Dream.
