66ers Downed by Vipers in Sunday Matinee

Tulsa, Okla., Mar. 8, 2009 - Keith Clark had his seventh double-double of the season, with 20 points and 10 rebounds, but the Tulsa 66ers fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 124-101 on Sunday afternoon at the SpiritBank Event Center.

"The Vipers were the aggressors today," 66ers Head Coach Paul Woolpert said. "They took it to us for 48 minutes."

Trent Strickland started the game shooting 4-for-5, including two three-pointers, while scoring the first 14 points for the Vipers. Tulsa shot 32 percent, and Rio Grande Valley shot 44 percent from the field in the first quarter, jumping out to a 32-19 advantage at the end of the period.

The Vipers went on a 7-2 run to start the second quarter, but the 66ers battled back to within six at 49-55 behind 11 points in the quarter by Moses Ehambe. Jawad Williams also scored 11 in the period for the Vipers, as they held a 10-point advantage at 49-59 at the half.

Tulsa's shots began to fall in the fourth quarter, shooting 12-for-23 (52 percent) in the period. But the Vipers shot 68 percent (15-22) behind Jeff Trepagnier's 14 fourth quarter points.

Tulsa shot 20-of-27 from the free throw line, including Ehambe going 6-for-6 from the stripe. The 66ers were outrebounded 57-38 for the game. The Vipers outscored the 66ers 64-40 from the bench.

In addition to Clark's double-double, Ehambe finished with a team-high 22 points, going 4-for-7 from three-point range. Gary Forbes scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out four assists. In his second game with Tulsa, Shaun Livingston made his first start, scoring 13 points. Derrick Dial returned to the lineup to score nine points and grab six rebounds.

Rio Grande Valley finished with six players scoring in double figures. Led by Strickland's game-high 24 points, Williams added 16 points, while Trepagnier scored 16 as well. Ernest Scott finished with 15 points off the bench, Quin Humphrey added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Craig Winder scored 12 points. Kurt Looby grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and blocked five shots for the Vipers.

The Vipers (15-22) continue on their longest road trip of the season at Colorado for a two-game set against the 14ers on Tuesday, Mar. 10 and Thursday, Mar. 12.

Tulsa (7-29) continues their home stand on Thursday, Mar. 12 against the Iowa Energy for their second Kids Day game of the season. Tip off is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the SpiritBank Event Center. The 66ers then face the Austin Toros on Friday, Mar. 13.
