
Big Third Period Lifts Bucks To 4-1 Win

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-1 Friday night at the Dodge Arena. The Bucks have won three straight games, and improve to 31-18-4 (66pts). Laredo increases their lead to eight-points over Rio for the third seed in the Southern Conference playoff race. The Bucks can clinch a playoff spot with a win Saturday night against Arizona.
Andrew Martin was outstanding in net for the Bucks, as he set aside 38 of 39 Killer Bees shots.
The Bucks scored three third period goals to break a 1-1 tie and pick up the win.
Igor Agarunov put the Bucks ahead 2-1 as he stuffed in a rebound from the slot 5:20 into the third. The strike was Agarunov's 14th of the season.
Alex Goupil made it 3-1 when he scored from the left circle on a two-on-one break. Goupil picked up his 21st tally of the year.
Darryl Smith would add an empty net goal with 1:30 left to make it 4-1. Smith now has 31 goals on the season.
The Bucks were outshot 39-25.
The Killer Bees jumped out in front of the Bucks just 2:52 into the first period. Evan Rankin picked up a loose puck right in front of the Laredo end and sent a backhander into the back of the net. The goal was Rankin's 21st of the season.
Martin was stellar in the first period, as he set aside 16 of 17 Killer Bees shots.
The Bucks were outshot in the first period 17-6.
Laredo tied the game at 1-1 with 5:09 left in the second period. Adam Rivet took a pass from Jason Dixon on a two-on-two break, and sent a wrist shot past Christian Boucher. The goal was Rivet's 10th of the season. Dixon's pass to Rivet came with two Bees defenders on him. Dixon (25) and Josh Bonar (4) picked up assists.
The Bucks were outshot again in the second period, this time by a 11-10 margin.
The win gives Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowki 496 career victories.

Bucks rookie defenseman Mike Gooch was placed on the 14-day IR prior to Thursday night's game against Arizona. Gooch has put up six points (3-3=6), and is a minus-four in 45 games this season.
