Houston Aeros News Release
THIS WEEK'S GAMES
After earning one victory out of three chances this past weekend the Aeros are looking at three divisional opponents, two of which handed Houston a pair of shutouts over the weekend. The Aeros travel to Iowa mid-week to prepare for a Friday contest before traveling Quad City Saturday and Chicago Sunday. Houston currently stands in fourth place in the West Division, only one point behind Iowa and one point ahead of Chicago.
Friday's 7:05 p.m. contest in Des Moines is only the second meeting of the season between Houston and the Iowa Chops. Nolan Schaefer backstopped the Aeros to a 3-1 victory at Toyota Center on October 28 with all three goals scored on the power-play. The teams will square off a total of five times in the month of February with two games in each of the following two weeks.
The Aeros will travel to Quad City on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Flames who shut out Houston 5-0 this past Thursday. The Flames have won three straight games over the Aeros by a combined score of 11 to 3. Houston won the first pairing of the season 4-1 on December 11. Each of Houston's seven goals against Quad City this season has come from different skaters.
A 5 p.m. game in Chicago will be the last leg of the weekend three-in-three. Houston won five straight contests over the Wolves prior to a 3-0 shutout this past Saturday. The first two meetings of the season, one in each city, were both won by Houston including a shootout victory in the season opener. The teams play each other a total of three more times this season including back-to-back Sundays starting this weekend.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Houston's Nolan Schaefer earned the lone victory of the weekend this past Saturday night as the Aeros avenged an earlier shutout by defeating the Binghamton Senators 3-2. Schaefer stopped 21-of-23 shots in the contest and helped the Aeros come back from a 2-0 deficit after the first period. The victory, however, was bookended by shutouts from Chicago and Quad City.
The Quad City Flames extended their winning-streak over the Houston Aeros to three games with a 5-0 win at Toyota Center Thursday night. Despite six power-play chances, the Aeros were not able to find the back of the net. Barry Brust was in net facing a total of 36 shots, the sixth most shots faced this season.
The Houston Aeros went down 2-0 after the first period but scored three unanswered goals, including two in the third period, to earn a 3-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators Friday night in front of a season-high 11,838 fans at Toyota Center.
The Chicago Wolves snapped the Houston Aeros' five-game winning streak over the club with a 3-0 shutout at Allstate Arena Saturday night. The Aeros (22-20-1-7) took the first two meetings of the season before dropping Saturday's contest, allowing Chicago within one point in the West Division standings.
