Thursday, January 29, 2008: Manitoba 1, Rockford 2 (SO)

Back-and-forth play, nine penalties and stellar goaltending summarized the second game of the season between the Manitoba Moose and Rockford IceHogs on Thursday night at the MTS Centre. After 60 minutes of regulation time, the teams were forced into overtime and then a shootout to decide the winner, where the visiting IceHogs defeated the Moose 2-1 for the first time this season in front of 6535 spectators.

Friday, January 30, 2008: Manitoba 1, Rockford 4

An early two-goal deficit proved too much for the Manitoba Moose to overcome, as the IceHogs finished on top of a 4-1 decision to beat the Moose for the second time in as many nights at the MTS Centre. Pierre-Cedric Labrie scored Manitoba's lone goal while Moose turned IceHogs Jimmy Sharrow and Danny Groulx both registered points against their former club. Manitoba is now 1-1-0-1 record against Rockford this season, with one more game to play on March 21st.

Moose Notes

NECK-AND-NECK IN THE NORTH: With the Moose earning only one point in their double-header against the Rockford IceHogs, the top-section of the North Division standings remains tight. With 67 points, the Moose dipped to second place, only one point behind the first place Grand Rapids Griffins. The third place Hamilton Bulldogs are nine points behind the Moose. Manitoba is second in the Western Conference and third in the league, behind Grand Rapids and Hershey.

WELL HELLO, FEBRUARY: Starting with tonight's contest vs. the Lake Erie Monsters, the Moose play 14 games in the month of February. Only four of those games will be played at the MTS Centre and only three against North Division opponents (Lake Erie- Feb. 2&3; Grand Rapids- Feb. 20). Last season, the Moose kicked off the second month of the year with consecutive losses to the Hamilton Bulldogs, but finished 9-6-0-1 by the end of the month. In 2006-07, the Moose went 10-1-1-0 in February, winning nine straight games from Feb. 3-23/07 and starting what would be the best second month in franchise history. Manitoba's worst February was in 2004-05 when the club went 4-5-0-1. In fact, in the club's first four AHL seasons (2001-05), the Moose had never finished above .500 in February.

HEARTACHE AT HOME: In their last series on home ice Manitoba dropped both games to the Rockford IceHogs at the MTS Centre (1-2SOL & 1-4L). These losses altered the club's home record to 16-10-0-2. In their last 10 home contests the Moose have only managed to win three of them (3-5-0-2). Tonight and tomorrow's games against Lake Erie will be the last set of home matches for the Moose until the Feb. 27-28 when the Peoria Rivermen come to visit.

Upcoming Opponents

The Manitoba Moose are back in white tonight, February 2nd and tomorrow February 3rd to host the Lake Erie Monsters for the first time this campaign. The Moose visited Lake Erie earlier this season and shutout the club 1-0 on January 17/09. Manitoba's all-time record against the Monsters is 7-1-1-0 (3-1-0-0 at the MTS Centre).
