Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

DES MOINES - The Des Moines Buccaneers have officially added Nick Cecere to their roster for the remainder of the season. Cecere, who had been playing for Northwood Prep in upstate New York, played with the Buccaneers in their win against Tri-City on January 3rd, as well as with the team on December 31st at Indiana and January 2nd at Cedar Rapids.

"It's always nice to have a local kid on the team. Nick played a few games with us over his winter break and proved himself to be a strong defenseman. We're looking forward to what he will bring to our team," said Associate Head Coach Scott McConnell.

Cecere, who grew up in Western New York before moving to West Des Moines, has been on the Buccaneers affiliate list for a few years. An affiliate list is made up of players who are under 18 that can be added anytime over the course of the season, whether as a member of the roster or as an injury replacement player. Each USHL team has an affiliate list, with the players being drafted during the USHL entry draft or the futures draft.

Cecere's parents, Nick and Barb, have been actively involved with hockey in Des Moines. They serve as housing parents for the Des Moines Buccaneers, season ticket holders for the Des Moines Buccaneers and Nick currently serves on the board of Des Moines Youth Hockey Association as Vice President

Nick Cecere has attended Northwood School for the past two years, spending both years on the Junior team. Coincidentally, last year he played with current Buccaneer Alex Chiasson on the Junior team. The defenseman has already committed to the University of Nebraska - Omaha, after visiting the school and team the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Cecere joins the Buccaneers at a crucial point in the season; with the team currently needing some wins to be considered in the playoff run. In an attempt to move up in the East Division the Buccaneers have also added forward Colin Haas, a native of Plano, Texas, to the roster.
