Ford Named ECHL All-Star MVP

Former Stampede forward Matt Ford was named the ECHL All-Star Game MVP after tallying three goals and an assist for the American Conference in their 11-5 win over the National Conference in Reading, PA last night. He is currently playing for the Charlotte Checkers, the "AA" affiliate of the New York Rangers. His four-point performance was the best all-star performance by a Checker in their 16-year history.

Ford spent the 2003-04 season with the Stampede, leading the team in scoring with 68 points (37g, 31a). Ford, a rookie in the ECHL, had a first-period assist, two goals in the second period, and a third-period goal to complete the hat-trick while giving the American Conference a 7-4 lead.

Ford leads the Checkers with 16 goals and has 31 points (16g, 15a) in just 21 games.

Other former Stampede players also participated in the game, former teammate Jordan Fox (2003-04) had two assists for the American Conference and goaltender John Murray (2004-06) stopped 13 of 18 shots for the National Conference. Fox is the leading scorer for the Gwinnett Gladiators, posting 34 points (14g, 20a)in 34 games. Murray is in his first season with the Ontario Reign, the "AA" affiliate of the L.A. Kings, where he has posted a 12-8-1 record, a 2.67 GAA and a .922 save percentage.
