Revolution Announce 2009 Spring Training Schedule

(York, Pa.): The York Revolution have announced their spring training schedule for 2009, which will include four exhibition games against the Freedom Division rival Lancaster Barnstormers and Somerset Patriots. Two of the games will be held at Sovereign Bank Stadium in York, and three full-team workouts will be open to the public. Admission will be FREE to Revolution spring training games held in York on April 20 and 21.

The 2009 York Revolution will assemble as a team for the first time April 13. The first full-team function will be a workout on Tuesday, April 14 from 10 a.m. until Noon. All other workout times will be from either 10 a.m. until Noon, or 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The exact times will be announced at a later date in April. Fans wishing to attend open workouts should keep their eyes on YorkRevolution.com.

As a special bonus to fans, they have the opportunity to have breakfast with Revolution players from 8 to 9 a.m. on April 14. For the price of 10 dollars, fans can enjoy an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet in the White Rose Hall on the suite level of Sovereign Bank Stadium, with the company of many of the players. Payment will be due on arrival that Tuesday morning at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

"What better way to kick-off spring training and the '09 season, than to share a great meal with some of our players before you head off to work that day," said Charles.

The second team workout will be held on April 15, and is also open to the public. The first exhibition game will be a day later on Thursday, April 16, when the Revolution visit Bridgewater, New Jersey for a 1 p.m. first pitch against the Somerset Patriots. The Revs will return home for another open workout on April 17.

"Getting an entire roster to settle in and be comfortable to start the season is a challenge," said Revolution Director of Baseball Operations Adam Gladstone. "Our hope is a lot of fans will come out to our workouts and exhibition games to enjoy themselves, and in-turn really make our players feel welcomed. It's a win-win."

York Revolution Fan Fest, the official kick-off for the 2009 season is planned for Saturday, April 18. A full list of events and activities for Fan Fest will be forthcoming in a separate announcement. To wrap up the weekend, the Revs will travel to Lancaster for their second exhibition game and a War of The Roses preview on Sunday, April 19. First pitch is slated for 1:30 p.m. at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Revolution will conclude spring training at home on Monday and Tuesday, April 20 and 21. On Monday they'll host Somerset, a 1 p.m. first pitch. The fourth and final exhibition game will be against Lancaster at Sovereign Bank Stadium, also beginning at 1 p.m.

Wednesday, April 22 is reserved as an open date in the event of any weather cancellations during spring training week. The Revolution will begin the regular season at Bridgeport on April 23.

"We want to encourage a lot of folks downtown and elsewhere to take long lunch breaks that week, and come to the ballpark for some spring training baseball," said Matt O'Brien, Revolution General Manager.

"For our loyal fans, this is a great chance to scratch that baseball itch even earlier than last season," he continued. "And for those who haven't checked us out yet, it's a chance to take in a quality baseball game for free," said O'Brien.

Season tickets and mini-plans for the 2009 season are now on sale. Opening Day is May 1 against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
