Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters today announced the signing of left handed pitcher Sean Thompson of LaJunta, Colo.
A fifth round draft choice of San Diego out of Denver's Thunder Ridge High School in 2002, Thompson passed up scholarship offers from the University of Hawaii (football) and Arizona State University (baseball) to sign with the Padres.
Thompson, a starter, spent six years in the San Diego organization. He went 9-6 in 27 games with Class-A Ft. Wayne of the Midwest League in 2004. He was designated for assignment and removed from the Padres' 40-man roster on June 29, 2007, when San Diego acquired outfielder Milton Bradley from Oakland.
Kansas City signed Thompson and sent him to its Triple-A Omaha affiliate in the Pacific Coast League in July 2007, but he was claimed off waivers by Colorado after only three games. He finished the 2007 season with Tulsa, the Rockies' Class AA affiliate, where he was 5-1 with a 4.06 ERA.
Released by the Rockies in spring training last year, Thompson compiled a 1-4 record for Camden of the Atlantic League in 2008.
