Tip A Wheat King Night Raises $4,356

November 5, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL) Brandon Wheat Kings

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Canadian Kidney Foundation is pleased to announce that over $4,000 was raised during the 2008 Tip a Wheat King Night, held Tuesday night at Montana's Cookhouse in Brandon.

Kidney Foundation Fundraising Coordinator Gail Janz has confirmed that $4,356 was generated during the event, which is held annually to raise money for the Westman Office of the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Approximately $5,000 was raised during last year's annual event.

Several players including Scott Glennie waited on tables Tuesday, with all tips received going to the local charity. As well, the management of Montana's Cookhouse donated over $700 to the Kidney Foundation.

Glennie edged out a number of players for the Top Tippers' Award. Other players attending this year's event included Keith Aulie, Brodie Melnychuk, Andrew Clark, Colby Robak, Chad Erb, Matt Calvert, Matt Lowry and Mark Stone.

Tip a Wheat King Night also featured a Media Hot Wings Eating Contest, which was won by Tyler Crayston of CKX Television, a Silent Auction as well as a large collection of door prizes. In order to successfully defend his title, Crayston was forced to eat down 31 hot wings in ten minutes. Finishing second with at 27 was Trent B of 94.7 Star FM.

The Wheat Kings, Montana's Cookhouse and the Kidney Foundation would like to thank all those western Manitoba hockey fans that attended Wednesday's event and helping to make the 19th Annual Tip a Wheat King Night a success.

On the ice, the Wheat Kings kick off a 7-game homestand this weekend with games on Friday and Saturday nights against Swift Current and Medicine Hat respectively.

Fans attending Friday's game are encouraged to bring a food donation to Westman Place. All food collected inside the arena on Friday will then be donated to the Samaritan House, compliments of Juggernaut Computers - Friday's Game Night Sponsor.

Juggernaut has set a goal to collect 7,000 non-perishable food items by Christmas. Samaritan House moves about 18,000 lbs of food each month, assisting approximately 800 families.

Tickets to this weekend's games at Westman Place are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
